Color is  key to abstracts for me.  It usually start with choosing a color - blue used to be a favorite - then that drop of color takes shape on the canvas and starts inviting other shapes and colors and the game starts.  Composition is an interplay of  shapes, colors and texture - mixing textures, from impasto to almost translucent layers. Colors can be decided on the design board but texture ultimately is key to the process.
